Now, silently commemorating it's 26th Anniversary, Warner Bros. has raised the bar from Blu-ray to 4k UHD, along with HDR, and the result is both interesting, as well as telling, as it gives us a very good idea of precisely how good the last BD release was. I had but a single problem with this beautiful 4k. I found the titles to be just a tad "on point," which gave them the look of being a tiny bit sharpened. scan, but the new transfer needs no such aid. The detail is there for real, and the greater accuracy Warner Bros has brought Goodfellas to UHD with a great transfer and a decent amount of extras, all of which have been carried over from previous releases, though the accompanying booklet and letter with Scorsese’s signature from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray is notably absent. A few new things could have been added to spice things up, including the film’s marketing campaign, but as is, this is still a nice Ultra HD upgrade.

Goodfellas -- in 4k A Few Words About - A few words about™ Goodfellas -- in 4k

Goodfellas is both a warning and an invitation. It's a cautionary tale that tempts viewers to throw Made Men: The Goodfellas Legacy (SD, 14 min) — This short segment reveals the film's immense influence on modern filmmakers like Jon Favreau, Joe Carnahan, Richard Linklater, The Hughes Brothers, Antoine Fuqua, and Frank Darabont. Many of the comments are mostly surface level thoughts, but it's great listening to these directors offer their take on a Scorsese classic. This was one of WBs first catalogue UHDs and as we all know from bitter experience, PQ on discs get better as new tech and compression techniques allow the discs to get crammed more and more as time goes, giving us much better PQ - so this may very well suffer from 'early adopters' syndrome, again as with any tech/video technology - how many HD versions of things like The Fifth Element did we get before we got a great image? The Workaday Gangster– As told by Henry Hill, the life he had versus the life he has now and how he couldn’t get out of the business. This release also includes two Blu-rays from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release. One featuring the film in 1080p, and the other containing a set of extras: DISC ONE – 4K MOVIE

believe that the colors of the 2007 release were accurate. Before the era of digital intermediates, While I don't find it to be, as Roger Ebert phrased it, "The best mob movie ever made," it's right up their at the pinnacle of the mount. I love this film. Getting Made (SD, 30 min) — This making-of piece features interviews with cast and crew talking about the production and how the film came to be made. There is a great deal of talk on casting the roles and having to work with the legendary director. After listening to the first audio commentary, much of the information shared by everyone feels like a repeat. Still, it's a good, entertaining piece. The Film Vault is obviously gearing these releases toward serious collectors, in terms of offering a unified appearance and the same sort of O-ring slipcover branded with both the film title and The Film Vault's logo as well as numbering. different reviewers means different opinions," and, boy, is that ever the case with this release. There have been a number of 1080 that I am not always a fan of how shot on film productions tend to look in the increased resolution of 4K, and that's once again the case with thisof Henry Hill's life as a gangster, or, as Scorsese puts it in the letter accompanying this new Blu-ray release, of a life that might "spin out of control at This new version is something of a landmark for Warner Brothers, because Goodfellas is its first "deep catalog" release in what Scorsese's 'GoodFellas' (HD, 30 min) — Produced and directed by Brett Ratner, this recently-made but short retrospective is essentially a collection of interviews with various cast and crew. Discussions range from particular behind-the-scenes tidbits to technical details of the production, but everyone shares various memories and anecdotes, which are insightful and make this short doc worth watching. Other actors also participate basically to praise Scorsese's work.
